The Eye

Why did we create that?

You scanned the QR code at the installation and arrived here with a question. That is the point of this site: to explain what you saw on the screen.

The Eye is a digital art installation at TEDU. It watches people pass by in real time, reads what is visible (clothing, colour, general mood), and turns that into text. The text becomes a vector avatar on the display. The Eye is shaped by everyone who walks past it. No photograph or video of you is kept.

Over the exhibition, hundreds of these avatars are collected. On the final day they merge into one grand artwork: a single digital piece made from every interpreted presence. You can download it from this site, and you are welcome to visit the installation in person to see the physical version at TEDU D Block Basement.

FAQ

Common questions for visitors who are new to the project.

What is The Eye?

The Eye is an interactive art installation. A large digital eye sits behind a water wall at TEDU D Block Basement. As people walk by, it reads visible details like outfit colours and posture, writes a short text description, and generates a unique vector avatar on screen. The installation changes with every person who passes.

Why was my avatar created?

Your avatar is The Eye's artistic interpretation of what it saw when you were nearby. It is not a portrait and not a copy of your face. It is a vector character built from a text reading of your visible style. The explanation on your personal page describes how The Eye interpreted that moment.

What is the grand artwork?

The grand artwork is the final piece of the project. Every avatar created during the exhibition is merged into one large digital composition. It represents the collective presence of all visitors who passed The Eye. On the last day of the event, a high-resolution version will be available to download from this website.

Was my photo or face stored?

No. The Eye does not save photographs, video, or facial images. It only keeps a text description of what was visible and the avatar generated from that text. For full details on data handling, see the KVKK page.

Can I share my avatar on social media?

Yes. Your avatar is part of a public art project and you can share it on Instagram, X, or anywhere else. If you want, link back to this site or mention The Eye. Please do not present it as a photo or likeness of yourself. It is a generated artwork, not a selfie.

How does the process work?

The project follows three steps: Observe (The Eye reads what is visible in the moment), Recreate (that reading becomes text, then a vector avatar), and Merge (all avatars combine into the grand artwork on the final day). Nothing is photographed along the way.

When and where can I visit?

The installation runs Sept 8–16 at TEDU D Block Basement. You can walk through the space during opening hours and see your avatar appear live on the screen. On the final day, the completed grand artwork will be shown at the same location.

What happens on the final day?

The exhibition closes with the reveal of the grand artwork. The merged digital piece will be displayed at the installation and published here for download. We invite everyone who contributed an avatar to visit in person and see the physical result of the project.
